Tell us about your career journey
My career in hospitality has taken me around the world and given me the opportunity to learn from many different types of operations. I grew up in the Netherlands with a passion for hospitality and went on to study Hotel Management at the Hotel Management School in Tilburg. After graduating, I combined my love of travel and service by joining Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, where I spent more than a decade developing my hospitality skills and eventually becoming a Food & Beverage Manager. That experience taught me the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, and creating exceptional guest experiences in a fast-paced environment.
In 2001, I transitioned from life at sea to a land-based hospitality career, where I gained valuable experience leading multi-unit operations with brands like Bertucci’s, Panera Bread, and Tatte Bakery & Cafe. Each role helped shape my approach to leadership, team development, and building strong operational foundations. I joined DORO Marketplace in 2023 and have been excited to help grow a concept that combines great food, genuine hospitality, and a strong connection to the community.
How would you describe your leadership style when managing teams and systems?
I believe great leadership starts with trust, communication, and leading by example. My goal is to create an environment where team members feel supported, empowered, and understand how their role contributes to the bigger picture. Hospitality is a team effort, and strong systems help our teams do what they do best: take care of our guests. I focus on creating structure while still encouraging creativity, ownership, and connection.
What are you most proud of since joining the team?
I’m most proud of the team we’ve built and the culture we continue to create at DORO Marketplace. Opening and growing a concept takes dedication from every person involved, and seeing our team come together to deliver great experiences for our guests has been incredibly rewarding.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our three children. Whether it’s sharing a family meal together or spending time sailing on Long Island Sound, I value the opportunity to slow down and enjoy time with the people closest to me.
